When we were together at a TFC Global Staff Conference evening last Fall, Bunny, Sam and Cerwin said, “We must get together sometime.” These three are some of the remaining “old guys” with TFC.
Sam Rittenhouse made it happen about a month later when he suggested we meet at Plum Creek Creamery, Bernville, PA.
It took us a bit of time to get a date that suited all six of us.
Our first order of business was ordering lunch. That is Sam and his friend Barbara at the front of the line. (His wife, Alice, died several years ago.)
There is a country-style store to the left of this picture, with bulk food, local items and homemade delicacies.
My delicious chicken sandwich. We closed our meal with some of their fabulous ice cream.
Sam, Barbara, Peg, Bunny and Cerwin. Oh, what fun having time with them – eating, reminiscing and laughing.
Sam and Cerwin go back to the ’80s when they served together with Transport For Christ (now TFC Global) in the Northeast Region. In early 1990 Cerwin became Northeast Region Director and Sam became Assistant Director.
We met Bunny and Peg a short time later when he became the lead chaplain in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. Several years later they moved to Pennsylvania to serve all ministry chaplains – out of the International Office.
We have all slowed down in the past few years – as we move toward retirement. However, each one assists the ministry as needed. Bunny is probably the most active – serving as a local truck terminal chaplain. Sam is faithful in making phone calls to current and past staff and checking that they are doing okay. Cerwin works in maintenance at the headquarters office as needed.
One of the guys mentioned the interesting overhead lighting. It looks like the boards holding the lights came from an old barn.
We will definitely make this a meeting place again in the future.
Next time we are going to Gracie’s on West Main in Leola.
Our daughter lives not far from there and has taken us there twice. We LOVE Plum Creek!
I didn’t realize she lived in that area.
Her address is Bernville…
That is certainly the area of Plum Creek. 🙂
It looks like a lovely place, and it’s always fun to get together with old friends!
We will go back. I haven’t laughed so much in a long time – mostly at some of Peg’s escapades.
Nice remembering about the past and nice to see pictures everyone. We have had to slow down a bit as well with heart issues. Doing well and moving into a new chapter in the life and times of the Michaud as step into retirement. Time is moving right along as we all move closer to eternity with our Lord. When discussing the 80 s and 90s really makes me think wow time is moving ? was thinking Bunny must he in his mid 80s now right. Sam dont look like he has aged since I last seen him 15yrs ago ? God bless you all we love you.
Time is really moving. I remember when we first met you. I don’t think Bunny is 80 yet. Not sure. Sam is 91 and still very active.
Wow that’s really nice for Sam I later figured out Bunny is 79 and will be 80 this summer. I love my transport for Christ family ❤?
that lunch sounds like fun. that place looks amazing. My parents used to live in Bernville at a mission called CMTS. Have you heard of it?
I had not heard of CMTS. You would love Plum Creek.
