Yesterday was a cloudy, rainy day and since it was Veteran’s Day I was reminded that it had been two and a half months since we had seen Roy and Deb (our youngest daughter).
Due to being at home so much recently because of a lot of COVID in our area, I was feeling a need to see them, so I called Deb and asked what she was doing to honor her veteran.
She replied, “Nothing. Do you want to go out for supper?”
I love when it doesn’t take any prompting for our minds to think alike. 🙂
She called Roy about meeting at their favorite restaurant – about half way between their houses. He has a house near Hanover (where he works) and stays there during most of the workweek.
He loved the idea, and thought he was only going to see Deb.
We arrived in Red Lion about 5:40 for our 6:00 appointment.
We had a bit of trouble finding it since our GPS didn’t seem to recognize the address, but we finally located the restaurant, went inside, and told the waitress the name on the reservation. She took us to our table to wait for Roy and Deb.
It was about that time that a funny thing happened. When Roy and Deb arrived a few minutes later, they had a different hostess, who seated them at another table. Roy noticed there were four menus and was expecting another veteran friend and his wife.
Deb knew we were there and was surprised that they weren’t seated with us. She soon saw us across the room, got our attention and notified our waitresses that we were were supposed to be at the same table. 🙂
It was good to see them in person and get caught up on their lives.
Roy got a special that looked delicious.
Deb’s filet, Brussels sprouts and baked pineapple.
Cerwin’s filet, baked potato and baked pineapple.
We were expecting a slice or two of pineapple and were surprised to see it in a tiny casserole dish. It was delicious. I had a baked potato, grilled asparagus and baked pineapple.
Notice the four forks. We shared a large slice of red velvet cake – which wasn’t very red – but was quite delicious.
I am glad I called Deb in the morning. It seems that a veteran shouldn’t have to eat supper alone on Veteran’s Day – especially when his mother-in-law is missing him.
It all looks wonderfully delicious — the idea of baked pineapple is really intriguing!
It was delicious and I am still trying to figure out what was in the pineapple dish – beside pineapple.
An amazing night with my favorite parents. Such a great evening
Super great!
Thank you for sharing this special evening with Roy and Deb…. I so enjoy this little (but great) stories and photos. You’re all looking fantastic. Miss everyone of you. Big hugs from Mazenzele. Hans XxX
We miss you too.
