Several days after the cornfield across the road was harvested (Sept. 11), I heard machinery next to our yard.
Because they started cutting the corn very close to our house, I was able to get some closeups of the silage going into the truck.
An hour and a half later they were deep into the field.
A full truck leaving and an empty one arriving.
Finishing up this field. We now have a good view of our neighborhood again.
Sometimes I wish my Great Grandpa (Jacob), Grandpa (Milton), and Dad (Bruce) could watch the way the field is being harvested today. I think this photo is of my grandfather’s horses – and that it is the lower part of the same field because of the fence row and woods in the background.
The machine that cuts the corn and throws the silage into the truck is a far cry from the horses being followed by people foring up the silage! What advancements we have seen in our lifeetimes!
Our ancestors would be amazed – and the equipment here is small compared to the Midwest.
They just started harvesting the field across the street from us. It’s a soybean field this year.
The field with interesting memories from our visit with you? 🙂
