I noticed this mushroom on Saturday when returning from a short walk. It was no larger than a 2 inch ball. By the time I thought about it again – Sunday at 3:45 pm – it had grown to the size above – maybe 3-4 inches across.
A few hours later – about 8 pm – it had opened to about 6 or 7 inches.
There must have been something in the ground in that area that caused it to grow, because it was the only mushroom I found in our acre of lawn.
By Monday morning it had opened fully and was probably 10 inches in diameter.
By Tuesday morning it was in the shape of a bowl.
Mushrooms fascinate me. They seem to grow up overnight and within days they are shriveling from old age. This one didn’t have time to get old because Cerwin destroyed it with the lawnmower. π
The next time you see this mushroom, it will be in a fairy ring, a circle of mushrooms prompted by the spawn from this one example!
I agree. π
