Monday Evening, August 3
It was a beautiful evening to check on the progress of the corn and squash.
The corn is filling out nicely and the silk is turning brown – a sign of maturity.
It looks like the Homestead will have a good corn crop.
I smiled when I noticed a few butternut squash vines moving into the corn rows. Crops like squash do not know farmer’s boundary lines. 🙂
The squash vines in Jacob’s field are also looking healthy.
The blossoms are dying as squash grow out of them.
They are in various stages of maturity.
Vines remind me a bit of umbilical cords. It is their life. Without a vine the squash will stop growing and eventually die.
It looks like this field will produce thousands and thousands of butternut squash.
