I went outside about 5:15 AM hoping to see the space station going overhead. It was supposed to be easily seen in our area. However, for some reason I didn’t find it. I have seen it before, but not on this morning. I did see Venus. the moon and a lot of other stars.
Venus using another camera setting.
The moon was a waxing crescent.
I usually miss sunrises during the summer months because it comes up behind our house and woodlot. Today I was out in the yard far enough to see the pretty orange sky silhouette a neighbor’s silos.
A short time later, after coming inside and going to the kitchen for my second cup of coffee, I saw this strange critter on a window at the sink.
This is the bottom of it from inside the window.
I went outside to look at it from the other side and poked at it a bit. It moved and dropped to the flagstone ledge.
It was a kind of moth I had never seen. When I googled “moth with white fuzzy feet” I got: Beautiful Wood Nymph.
You would think after living in this area for 76-1/2 years that I would have seen everything that lives here. 🙂
This is the Internet photo and description: Eudryas grata is a moth known as the beautiful wood nymph. They are known for their mimicry of bird droppings. Found in abundance, predominantly across the entire eastern United States.
That was my education for the day.
