Sunday School – Opening Thoughts – Leland Litzenberger
Subject – Feast with Wisdom – Proverbs 9:1-6, 8-10, 13-18
Remember: Not everything you hear is God’s wisdom.
Teacher – Josh Diffenderfer
Wisdom and foolishness are opposites and are compared in Scripture many times.
The book of Proverbs is not a book of Law, but a book of Wisdom.
Wisdom “cries” and “calls” – even “begging” for us to follow her.
Wisdom does not need you for it to be wisdom.
We each bear the weight of our choices and lack of wisdom.
Wisdom takes effort – foolishness just happens.
We find wisdom by seeking God and His Son, Jesus.
Opening Devotions before the sermon – Glendon Zook
We need eternal eyesight as we hear and see today’s news.
Having eternal eyesight means we do not ignore what is happening around us, but that we focus on God and have spiritual eyes that see as God sees.
Sermon – David Wenger – John 16
In this chapter Jesus is preparing his disciples for life without Him, because he would soon be going back to His Father.
Verse 33: Jesus assured them that He has overcome the world.
Shalom – a word that extends beyond peace and encompasses blessing and completeness without war.
Life is a time when things threaten to steal our peace.
Assess your life: Where are you from 1 to 10? With 1 being no peace to 10 being real peace.
What is trying to take away your peace?
Do not allow others to draw you into their storm, but draw them into your peace – the peace of Jesus.
It is almost impossible to live and experience peace when you do not have peace with God.
Ten Bricks We Can Use to Build Peace
Simplicity – avoid life’s complications
Silence – listen to God
Surrender – to God’s will
Prayer – look to God
Trust – yield to God
Forgive – refuse to think revenge
Gratitude – be thankful
Honesty – lying complicates and compromises peace
Humility – you are not always right, listen to the advice of others
Obedience – revere God
Jesus said, “In Me you will have peace.”
