Sunday, June 7
Following morning worship we headed toward Roy and Deb’s house for an afternoon visit – stopping at Rosie’s for subs that Deb had ordered.
We have a few Amish in our area, but they live in an area – south of Lancaster – where there is a large Amish community.
It was a beautiful, warm Sunday, so most of the Amish were enjoying open buggies.
It was good to spend time with Roy and Deb and hear what is going on in their lives. Covid-19 did affect Deb’s layout and design business and Roy was laid off for about two weeks, but is back to a normal routine at work.
We saw several Amish carriages on our one-hour drive home.
This group of bicyclists are from a conservative Mennonite church.
After getting home we gathered a few food items and went to see Nancy (my sister) and Marlin’s new house where we met Cerwin’s sister, Velda, and her husband Mel.
Mel and Velda (above) lived in this house many years ago and planted these peonies – which came from Cerwin and Velda’s parent’s house when they lived on Elm Road. Velda was interested in seeing the house and peonies, so Nancy and I wanted to make this visit happen before the peonies were finished blooming. They were already on the downside of blooming by this point and had just weathered a windy, rainy day.
I enjoyed listening to Velda and Mel reminiscing as Nancy gave us a tour of the house and yard. When we were finished seeing the house, we enjoyed a snack of ice cream, strawberries, bar cookies, chips and garden tea.
During this time of lawlessness and destruction, this is a beautiful reminder of God’s abundant life.
Yes. This is a great time to live near Amish communities.
