This is not the first time I saw a Brown Thrasher in our feeding area, but they are not here as often as other birds.
I enjoyed watching it break an almond.
It was apparently too large to eat whole, so it broke the almond by “attacking” it with its beak.
The thrasher would lift its head high and hit the almond with its beak – breaking it into eating sized pieces.
The male and female look alike so I have no idea if this is a male or female.
I took these pictures at different times of the day – from noon to evening. I have no way of even knowing if it was the same bird.
What a pretty bird — I love the breast feather markings! And you can’t say that birds don’t have brains or use tools — this one is very clever!!
It is pretty – and fun to watch. When it scratches for food, leaves and dirt fly all over the place.
