Our Food Supply

Past Two Weeks

In case you are concerned that we are lacking in food because we are staying home as much as possible, I want to show you a few food donations that came to our house recently.

In early April, our granddaughter Jana made a lemon poppy seed cake for her family and brought us a large slice. Oh, YUM!

A week later Kristen was experimenting with chocolate donuts and brought us a few.

A chocolate-lovers delight.

Kristen made apple French toast for their family for Easter brunch and made sure we had some.

I was anxious to bake and taste it on Easter morning.

This was DELICIOUS!

Jere told us to not make anything for Easter lunch because he would be bringing ours about noon – and he didn’t let us down.

It was in containers – ready to eat.

They even gave us grape juice and unleavened bread – in remembrance of the death and resurrection of Jesus.

That was thoughtful.

An Easter gift from Roy and Deb.

Sticky buns. Yum! I froze 2/3 of this so we don’t eat too much at a time. πŸ™‚

Like many of you, I have been more creative in the kitchen than usual. I have been trying to use things in my pantry, freezer and refrigerator that have been there for a long time.

This dish began after trying to figure out what to do with a jar of 8 maraschino cherries in our refrigerator. (I am not even sure how or when it got there. I think someone left it here after a family gathering.) After a bit of planning, I decided on a Jell-O dessert.

First I heated water for two small boxes of orange Jell-O (they had been in the cupboard for a long time). While the water was in the microwave, I put the cherries and a bit of the juice in the blender. I used only the required hot water for the Jell-o. After the water was hot and the Jell-O dissolved, I added the ground cherries, a pint of applesauce and 4 scoops of vanilla ice cream. It is quite refreshing.

Our children probably remember making and eating many varieties of this Jell-0 dessert.

I served some for lunch today, along with fresh fruit.

Yesterday, when Jere and Kristen were grocery shopping, they saw this pint of ice cream that reminded them of Cerwin – who loves pecan pie. I think it was a prelude to his birthday week.

So, as you can tell, we are not lacking for food nor are we withering away.

Something else food related: the other morning as I prepared to step on the bathroom scales – hoping I had lost a pound or two – I thought, “Why am I hoping that I lost weight when I haven’t changed my eating pattern or practiced a good exercise pattern?” πŸ™‚
