Cerwin was doing a milk sample pick up for our brother-in-law, Mel. (He and Velda are vacationing in Florida.)
Since it’s not Cerwin’s normal pick up, I decided to go along for another “special event” during my birthday week.
Our son, Jere, is his dad’s boss for this job. 🙂 Jere is the CEO/Manager.
Cerwin’s normal run is Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. The pick ups are early morning, so it works out nicely on days when we have other appointments. He is usually back home between 9 and 10 am.
This pick up starts a bit later and is a longer trip. We left DHIA at 7 am and returned at 11:30 am.
Cerwin’s other boss is April. She is HR and Office Manager and keeps Cerwin updated on his pickups.
It was a rainy, dreary morning.
By the time we arrived at Natural by Nature in Newark, Delaware, the sun was shining.
I waited outside in the van while Cerwin went inside this door for milk samples.
Cerwin closing the back door after putting the samples in ice chests.
Our next stop was Wawa – a few miles away – for ice and a breakfast sandwich.
Adding ice to the milk samples. He also got ice for the next pickup near Willow Street, PA.
Cerwin chose a sausage and egg biscuit.
I was going to do that too, but this turkey and cheddar wrap grabbed my attention.
As we headed home we passed a large apple orchard.
We were in sunshine in Delaware and Maryland, but before long there were ominous skies in front of us.
Within minutes large rain drops began hitting our windshield.
Then rain pelted the van and we got tornado warnings on our cell phones. “Take cover immediately” we were told. Great! Where were we supposed to go? 🙂
We never did see anything that looked like a tornado, but some people felt that tornadic-like winds went through our home area.
After the second pick up of milk samples, we were back at DHIA – where the samples would be tested by those in the lab.
We were surprised to see wind damage at the family Homestead farm – a small tree was blown over and we later learned that there was some roof damage. We got home (a quarter-of-a mile from the Homestead) and were amazed that there was barely a branch out of place.
Well, that was delightful and relaxing – except for the tornado warning. I love “atmosphere” with my morning coffee.
Glad you were safe. Those are quite large rain drops! Back in 1966 we were pulling a trailer from IN to CA with our 3 children in the car during a tornado warning. There was absolutely no safe place we could go. We kept driving while praying. We were heading south. When we got to our turn to head west, the storm turned and went east. It had been chasing us from the north. We thanked the Lord.
It is kind of a helpless feeling – being out there in a vehicle during tornado warnings.
