Supper with Our Children

Friday evening, October 25

The historic building on West Market Street in Marietta has gone through a number of reincarnations in the past 200 years. Built in 1792, the log structure was first a home, and then a tea shop, French restaurant, sports bar and tavern. Now, it’s Nick’s Bistro.

We like to go to new and unique restaurants, but for me, I would be okay with McDonalds just to have all eight of our children and children-in-love under one roof. 🙂 We chose Nick’s since we were looking for a restaurant in Columbia or Marietta since Roy was coming from work in Hanover, PA.

Our children don’t always like when I make them pose for a picture, so I took advantage of a time when they were visiting while we waited for our food.

Jeff, Kristen, Jere, Diane, Mark, Roy (hidden), Deb, Chris (standing) and Cerwin. I was pleased that it suited everyone one on short notice – when we took advantage of Mark and Diane being here and celebrated four 2018 birthdays: Jeff, Kristen, Mark, and Deb. (It happened to be the day of Jeff’s 55th birthday.)

I love watching them visit – even if I am not involved in the conversation.

Jere shared his “Nick’s Bistro Poutin” (fries, ham, cheese curd, brown gravy and onion straws) with everyone at the table.

I didn’t take pictures of each person’s choice of food or entrée – just a few of those sitting close to me.

Wings

French Onion Soup

Nick Burger: Burger, ham, bacon, caramelized onion, pepper jack cheese, fried egg.

Meat loaf, mashed potatoes and green beans.

Crab cake (lump claw crab meet), green beans, potatoes

Best of all – Citrus Cheese Cake

These kind of times happen a lot less than they used to since our children are busy with their children and grandchildren. We see each couple separately fairly often, but not all four in one place. Makes a mother’s heart happy.
