We enjoyed our view of the morning haze in the back of Clair and Kate’s house.
We left their house about 8:30 am and followed them to State College.
Our first stop was the Original Waffle Shop at State College for breakfast. Cerwin thought he must order a waffle in a waffle shop.

My Eggs Benedict
I was looking forward to seeing the Penn State Arboretum and walking around the gardens.
There were lots of pumpkins in the entrance area to advertise the Pumpkin Carving Contest.
They were in category by age – children and adults.
We checked out a few of them. Pumpkin carving is certainly different from when I was a child.
“Love You to the Moon and Back” got my 1st runner up vote.
This one is my winner – a Volkswagen. 🙂
I found this sundial to be very interesting.
It is the end of the season for many flowers, so I was pleased to see a lily pond. I love lily ponds.
Despite the end-of-season timing, we found lots of beauty.
What does Clair see? He has a camera like me, but did not have it along so used his cell phone.
A pretty, dew-drop-covered spider web
It was just the day before that we saw a spider web – on our evening walk – that spanned a really long distance and wondered how they do that. I checked the internet and learned that spiders use the breeze and sometimes the wind to do that.
It would have been fun to sit here and enjoy a cup of coffee.
After getting our fill of the arboretum, we drove around town where Clair and Kate pointed out their former offices. Then they said we had to stop by the Nittany Lion for photos.
From the internet: The Class of 1940 presented a gift of a Nittany Lion sculpted from a large block of Indiana limestone to Penn State in 1942. The work of noted sculptor Heinz Warneke, the crouching, powerful figure is now the popular Nittany Lion Shrine, located near the Recreation Building on the University Park campus. It is said to be the most photographed site on the campus.
It was fun to see Beaver Stadium where the Penn State Nittany Lions play.
We wouldn’t have gotten this close if there had been a game in the stadium.
If we turned our backs to the stadium, we could see Mount Nittany.
The mountain was our last view while visiting State College – and where we said goodbye to Clair and Kate.
Oh, what a fabulous Christmas gift I received. Maybe we will have to be this creative again some year – and give each other road trips.
