After our visit to Horseshoe Curve, we went to an Amish farm market to look for some things for supper. Clair and Kate were hoping to find some fresh corn – but last week was the end of the season for that at this market.
Goats in the meadow
They had many interesting, delicious looking items from garden items to baked and canned goods. I think this is where Clair bought a cherry pie for supper.
Purple cauliflower.
Clair and Kate didn’t give up on the fresh corn, and went to another Amish farm market.
It was wash day here.
I am not sure if I ever saw so many colors of sweet peppers.
Garlic and sweet potatoes – but no sweet corn. It is definitely the end of the season for the corn.
However, it is not the end of the season for pumpkins and gourds – it seems to be the top of the season for them. They are everywhere. 🙂
When I walked outside again, I was surprised to see this beautiful peacock.
There was also a cute burro and pony.
I wanted to get a good picture of them, but the burro would not cooperate. It kept chewing the fence.
I think the pony was saying, “Hey, she is trying to get a picture of us. Why don’t you cooperate instead of trying to look so stupid.”
Can you tell that we are back in Clair and Kate’s community? 🙂
Following a delicious grilled steak supper, we went for a one-mile walk at the nearby lake. This is the area where they keep their canoe.
Their canoe – named Flo after our mother – was already taken from its perch on this stand and stored in their garage for the winter.
Cerwin and Clair as we began on our walk across the dam breast.
A peaceful scene on a beautiful evening.
I liked this reflection of grasses on the waters edge.
More pretty reflections.
Cerwin and Kate looking for fish.
Back home in a community of people and deer. There is no hunting here, so the deer have no reason to be afraid of us.
After seeing where they store Flo during the summer months – on the rack beside the lake – I wanted to see her in winter storage – in the garage above their car. Mom would love having a canoe named after her. (Her name was Florence.)
We enjoyed the Amish-made cherry pie when we got back in the house. Just after finishing the pie, the electric went off. Kate called the electric company. They told her it would be off until about 9:30 pm, so Clair started their generator.
We again enjoyed a country music documentary that had recently been aired on Public Television. The electric came on just about the time we were preparing for bed at 9 pm.
It was a fabulous day.
The fall pictures and colors are so pretty.
I agree, and I expect the colors are even prettier this week.
