Sunday, September 1 – Hays, Kansas to Commerce City (Denver), Colorado
We left the motel at 6:30 am – in the dark. Before long we were seeing this beautiful sunrise. The first series of pictures is the sunrise as I saw it from turning around in my seat and taking pictures out the back passenger window.
The forward view during sunrise.
Back to the sunrise – taken out the back passenger window.
Okay, the front window view for the rest of the day. ๐
We were listening to our home church Sunday school service during our last miles in Kansas. The time changed during our worship service.
My highlight from Ron Copenhaver’s message: Beware of manufacturing a false Jesus. A false Jesus is not the Jesus of the Bible.
We are now in Mountain Time – two hours behind our east coast family and friends.
A roadside sunflower – photo taken at a red light when the car was stopped.
Eastern Colorado landscape
A deserted building that could tell us lots of stories.
Going by Denver Airport
Seeing the Colorado Rockies again almost takes my breath away. By the time we saw the Rockies we had seen thousands of acres of sorghum, millions of acres of corn and thousands of windmills.
Driving toward Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park
This is almost more beauty than my eyes can take in.
It didn’t take us long to realize that this drive was not a good idea on Labor Day Sunday. ๐ The line into Rocky Mountain National Park was long and slow.
It took us an hour to get from the Estes Park sign to the park entrance. We were grateful to have a National Park pass so we could enter free.
We did enjoy the beauty, but didn’t spent a lot of time here due to all the cars and campers.
This was the line of cars still entering the park when we left.
We called Chaplain Rich and Diana Olver in the mid-morning to see if they were available for lunch or supper. Supper worked out best for each of us.
It was good to spend time with them. I think it was good for them as well, because they don’t get to see many TFC Global staff in the course of a year as there are no nearby ministry centers.
My goodness the land is flat to the east of the Rockies! This is a lovely post — you do good things with sunrise, sunset, flowers, and the scenery helps in the mountains! What a crowd at the National Park! Some friends of mine went to Yosemite for the weekend — I’ll have to ask them how the crowds were!
We are now at Bryce Canyon, and they said there was a 3 hour wait to get into the park that day.
Oh my word — how disappointing that would be! I hope that it’s easier now that people have gone home after the holiday weekend, and school is mostly back in session! Enjoy Bryce Canyon — it’s a beautiful place!
Yes, we had a good day. We took the first shuttle and it wasn’t busy at all. We also took a shuttle in the afternoon. It was busier then, but also cloudy so the view wasn’t as pretty as in the morning.
I guess the Labor Day weekend really is a last hurrah for the summer before fall and winter set in! Glad you had a good day in the Park!
