I never like to post about cutting down trees, but our Ash trees continue to die from the Emerald ash borer. 🙁 The two trees that were being cut down on this day were tall and close to the house, so Amos rented a large crane.
Amos’ brother was helping him and was in the tree for this one.
The ladies came to help rake and pick up the small stuff. The one on the right is Amos’ wife, the one in the middle is their daughter, and I am not sure about the one on the left, but she may be a daughter as well.
Can you find the branch that is coming down – the one whose trunk does not go to the ground?
Our oldest son Jeff came for some firewood.
After our two trees were down to tall stumps, they sent the large crane to its next location and went to the neighbors behind us to take down two of their trees. Amos owns this property and rents it to neighborhood farm workers.
My sister Nancy was there with their grandson Isaac who was fascinated with the sounds.
He especially liked the sound of the “boom” when they fell.
Going down
Another one on the ground
Then they went back to our place to cut down the tall trunks that were going to be sold for lumber.
Going down
That one went down with a loud thud.
I didn’t get any pictures of the second tree. It was right behind our house. I was busy in the office and figured one tree being cut down looks about the same as another. 🙂
Better to get them down than to have one fall on the house, but they look to be solid.
Yes, they were solid, which means they could be sold to a lumber mill.
It’s sad when trees have to come down. However, it’s interesting and fun and scary and exciting, all at the same time, to watch them being taken down.
I am fascinated at their skill in taking the trees down – branch by branch, then the trunk.
How sad to see such beautiful trees come down — but better that than letting them fall in a windstorm!
Sad is the right word, but we didn’t want to take a chance on letting these two stand. This one was leaning away from the house, but the one behind the house was leaning toward the house.
Thanks so much for the pictures. Amos and his crew work hard when the take down those tress. And the corn field looks great in the background.
