I was looking forward to this lunch with Marcy and Cookie – to celebrate our February birthdays. I love dining with friends and going to new restaurants. (It had to be cancelled one time because of ice and snow.)
This location in York, PA, was an idea from Marcy. Neither Cookie or I had ever been here. We arrived about 11:30 am.
Marcy (left) had been here before, so requested a table next to this row of windows. (Sorry about the poor lighting from this angle. Thanks to the waitress for doing this for me.)
We started our meal by sharing Scotch Eggs – a sausage wrapped soft egg served with sweet dijonnaise. I had seen these on other restaurant menus, but for some reason they never tempted me because I am not a fan of sausage. Wow, was I wrong. They are delicious.
Marcy chose a sandwich and fries for lunch.
I forget what Cookie and I ate, because I didn’t take a picture of our meals. 🙂
We had a great time catching up on each others lives since our lunch together last year. Each of us are now grandparents, and Marcy and I are great-grandparents, so there were lots of family things to talk about.
We each saved room for dessert. Cookie had a cheese cake.
I wasn’t going to get dessert, however, Marcy wanted the crème brulee, but not the fruit. The fruit is what I wanted. So we shared this delightful dish. That worked out well. 🙂
We don’t always give gifts anymore, but Marcy found books that she wanted to share with Cookie and me.
She can make any package look beautiful.
My book was “Simply Amish” a delightful book by Donald B. Kraybill.
Because of the beauty of the restaurant, I asked the hostess about the history of the building. She said we might be interested to know that the wall woodwork and dividors in the entrance was made from church benches.
She added, “Part of the building was originally a stopping place between Lancaster and York, where people could tie their horses and get food and a bed.”
The only thing I found online was this paragraph: this structure was originally a single-family home, and then turned into a Bed and Breakfast before becoming a restaurant in the 1980’s.
It dates back to the 1850s.
I definitely want to go back here sometime.
