Okay, not every day in a birthday week can be special and fun. 🙂
I began my day by going to the dentist to get a crown on a tooth. At least the hard work was done, he just had to put the cap on.
Before leaving I enjoyed watching this squirrel acting like a watchman for the other squirrels by sitting on a ground feeder and checking out the area.
I came home to this scene in our yard – another not a fun thing for the day.
Amos just trimmed the branches because these two will be dropped into the field, and the ground is too soft right now.
Sadly, we have seven Ash trees that have to come down because of the Ash beetle (borer) disease.
After he finished preparing those two trees for dropping, he went to the back of our woodlot to drop several trees (mostly Ash) for my sister and her husband. He could do these because of working from or close to their driveway.
He will be back to finish ours when the temperature is colder and he can drop them into the field and drive his equipment into our yard for the five behind our house.
The fun part of the day was watching this squirrel trying to get birdseed out of my brand new feeder. Look at his top foot. He was just beginning to lose his grip on the tree…
…and down he went. If I had known this was going to happen, I would have kept the camera button down for “rapid fire.” 🙂
Squirrels don’t give up easily, so he tried again.
This time he got a better grip. 🙂
How very sad about the ash trees. In our drought, we are also losing numbers of old trees to the bark beetles. You will really miss those lovely trees in your driveway! I am in process of having a crown replaced — it cracked, and my biggest concern was having to remove the old one. That done, I will have a new crown next week. Love the silly squirrel working so hard to get his food.
We will probably replant a few trees. The one good thing – when they are in our front yard, it opens our view of the valley.
