This was our view on the way to church that day.
I like the muted grays, yellows and pinks in the sky.
We met Jere and Kristen’s family at Molly’s Convenience Store, then went to the Great American Outdoor Show at Harrisburg – mostly to see our African outfitter friends Phil and Kate de Kock. I took this picture as we arrived at their vendor spot. You can see Kate to the left, preparing to hug Kristen.
Kate hugging Jana
Phil (left) was setting up a hunt for this man and his son.
Kate was telling us about their change of location and how happy they are with their present place. They doubled the size of the land they lease and hunt – and the buildings are brand new.
There was a video of slides running at their stand. I waited until this one of Ian’s impala was displayed. 🙂
The featured photos at their stand – with the video is on the bottom right.
Phil, Jere and Cerwin. Notice that Jere is holding a nyala hide. Jere wanted the hide from his nyala, but somehow it got damaged and Phil gave him a hide from another nyala. Jere was very pleased and now has to decide what to do with it. There are several options.
Our one-hour visit brought back many wonderful memories of our eleven days with them in Hoedspruit, South Africa, last March. It was difficult to say goodbye.
From there we looked up Roy and Faye Reiff (neighbors and friends) at their vendor spot. They are outfitters in Montana. After a short visit, we picked up a rather late lunch, then went to the large arena to eat and watch Dock Dogs.
It’s fun to watch the trained – and not so trained – dogs jump into the water after an object thrown by their owner. Some dogs that were in the process of being trained would not jump off the dock.
I loved watching the well-trained dogs wait until their owner gave them the word to jump.
This dog was my favorite. He waited like this, then when his owner turned her back, he crept front a bit. The owner made him move back again. The owner turned her back and the dog crept front again. He caused a lot of audience laughs.
Finally she left him go!
Another well-trained dog.
Then it was time to go home. What a fun “Day 2” of my birthday week.
Love the wonderful gray and blue landscape shots! And what fun to see your safari hosts again! I’d forgotten about the dogs, but the African trip really took precedence!
Our visit made us homesick for South Africa.
I’m sure that seeing the photos again and the people really made you want to go back. How nice, too, that they brought Jere a replacement for his Nyala hide! So often after such a trip you never see or hear from the people again — this group really has made it extra special for you!
That is why it was such an incredibly fabulous trip. They cared about our needs. They made it personal and became our friends.
