Sunday, October 21
We were at Grace Church early (7 am) so the chapel would be in place and set up by the time people began arriving.
Joe Russell drove for Cerwin – as he was restricted from driving a rig due to his hernia.
Our first visitors were brought to the chapel by Chaplain Tom Kemp – who serves in North Bend, Washington. Grace Church was their home church before moving to Washington. He and Janis were still here from Staff Conference earlier in the week.
We had lots of visitors – especially before and after each of the two services in the church.
Tom had assigned a truck driver from the congregation to be on the chapel with us. Arnold Fox was with us during the first service in the church – I think he is in the background in the previous picture, and Abe Mummau (front left) was with us during the second service.
It was good to spend time with them and to meet other friends of ours who attend this church.
Joe (left) came back after lunch to drive the chapel back to TFCs Marietta Office. Thanks Joe and Doris for going out of your way to make this happen for Tom and Janis.
It was a good morning.
I believe that church is in the same fellowship as my church. They used to be Grace Brethren, but now have many names, and the name of the fellowship has been changed to Charis. I’m not sure why. I googled the church, and recognized some of the names of the leaders. Many years ago I took care of one of the pastor’s children. I remember he always laid on the floor and cried when his dad left, but after awhile he was fine.
I don’t think I told you that I went to some of the meetings of the combined Brethren Churches Conference. One of the evenings we went to a service at the Old Order German Baptist Brethren Church in No. Manchester and Peggy and Clayton came. I was so surprised and happy to see them! I enjoyed the service very much, though it was quite different from what I’m used to.
I thought the name Grace Church would get your attention. 🙂 You did tell me about the Brethren Churches Conference and how pleased you were to see Peggy and Clayton.
