This was the 17th Annual Chocolate Walk in Lititz – a popular event where a limited amount of 2,000 tickets are sold out within days of being released on July 1.
This was our first experience and a gift from Jere and Kristen.
We were encouraged to go to Stop #8 first – at Cherry Acres – where we would get warn chocolate sandwiches which were being made by Scooter’s Chef Tim Whitmyer.
My walking partners for the day were (left to right) Kristen, Jere, Cerwin, Caitlin, Roy, Jana, and Deb. Caitlin is a friend of Jana’s from Lancaster Bible College.Â
This guy thought we were having too much fun and wanted to pose as part of our family.
Caitlyn and Jana looking over the booklet that gave a description of each of the 32 stops.
The stops happen at local stores where the business owner allows a provider of chocolate samples to set up shop for the day.
The day is a project of The Kiwanis Club of Lititz which directs the profits to multiple agencies that help children in the Lancaster area – books for local libraries, Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic, and Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center.
While waiting for the day to start, we did some window and inside shopping at Cherry Acres. The business owners do hope the Chocolate Walkers will also do some shopping. 🙂
Apparently we weren’t the only people who were told to go to Cherry Acres first.
Finally our walk began and we got to taste these amazing chocolate sandwiches – hot off the grill.
We got samples of almost anything that can be made with chocolate or covered with chocolate.
Deb getting chocolate coated popcorn from two cute Amish girls.
Of course there was chocolate popcorn for sale.
Some yellow beauty along the way.
Each chocolate walker had to get their ticket marked each time we got a chocolate sample – so people can’t “cheat” and get a second sample.
Achenbach’s Long John enjoyed posing with the girls.

I liked this: Give it to God and Go Do the Dishes. It was lettering on a tea towel in one of the gift shops.
Resting while waiting on the others. Notice my rolling suitcase. That is where I put most of my chocolate samples. We would have been sick if we had eaten all 32 samples.
A photobomber
A pretty window display
Getting a ticket marked
Giving out literature at Sturgis Pretzel –Â from inside a pretzel
I liked the action in this photo – Roy drinking coffee (It may have been chocolate flavored) and Deb peeking around Caitlin’s shoulder.
We came upon musicians several times. According to the booklet, this is Frank Porter. I enjoyed sitting on a bench listening to him while Jere and Kristen shopped in Pots by DePerot.
Ice cream samples at Fox Meadows Creamery station outside the Pots by DePerot.
Our longest line was at Linden Hall
Founded in 1746, this is the nation’s oldest independent, college preparatory day and boarding school for girls in grades 6-12.
There were three or four sample stations in the entrance area.
This was one of my favorite samples. It was a delicious fruit juice.
Chocolate milk
These guys were singing a jazzy version of the B I B L E when we walked by.
We were tempted by all these cute crafts as we worked our way through the gift shop to the chocolate samples.
Another favorite were these clever mice – which were chocolate covered cherries with almond sliver ears and a Wilbur chocolate nose. The tails are the stems of the cherries.
Chocolate whoopie pies at Cake and Cup (where I often get cakes for parties). They were stationed outside Tomato Pie Restaurant.
A well-know Lititz attraction is Wilbur Chocolate Store.
Roy posing with the cute girl who announced the flavors at Greco’s Italian Ices & Homemade Ice Cream. She told us that we did not have to choose anything chocolate if by this time of the day we were tired of tasting chocolate. 🙂
Our entire gang of eight
Now that is a creative Lititz resident. “Unwanted Chocolate Here”. 🙂
Approaching our last walking stop.
There was another stop to which we drove to a restaurant – where Zig’s Bakery & Café gave out samples of chocolate cupcakes – and where we enjoyed a supper snack.
What a fun chocolaty day. I froze many of the samples and still have a few left in the freezer.
Thanks, Jere and Kristen!
What a fun fund-raiser — so creative, if not quite healthy! I think that even a chocoholic like me must have had more than enough chocolate for one day!
Yes, it was easy to get more than enough chocolate! 🙂
Not sure this was a good post for me to see! 🙂
And I probably should have never heard of chocolate sandwiches ~ oh my!
The chocolate sandwich was delicious.
