Friday Morning and Early Afternoon, July 6
I love arriving in Ohio a day early so we have time to take a leisurely drive over back roads in Amish Country.
These white deer (and two steers) got our attention.
They weren’t thrilled when I got close to the fence so I could get a shot without the fence showing.
We met lots of Amish buggies, but this one caught my attention because there were three young boys driving it.
I didn’t realize that the middle one turned around when I took this shot.
It was kind of a surprise to come upon a camel. There were horses, cows, sheep and goats everywhere, but a camel?
He seemed curious about my voice.
A pretty horse – probably used to pull a carriage.
Grain shocks
Queen Anne’s Lace
This flower looks a bit like a dandelion – but the stem looks like a wildflower.
We came upon a convoy of covered wagons. Most of the occupants seemed to be Amish. There were four wagons ahead of this one.
We wondered what they were doing. Camping maybe?
We went to Hershberger’s for lunch.
One of these years I am going to get a buggy ride.
My lunch.
Cerwin got a bacon cheeseburger. He ate most of it – after I took a few bites. I ate most of the fresh peach sundae – but he enjoyed several spoonful’s
We did not pay to go into the petting zoo, but walked around the outside a bit.
We walked to the store to watch this man making kettle corn.
It was just beginning to pop – so he put a sugar/salt mixture on it and added a screened lid to the top.
They have a nice vegetable stand and grocery store.
Notice the goats on the roof?
Then we were on our way again – to Kidron Auction where the TFC Truck Parade would begin later in the afternoon.
This farmer was leaving Kidron Auction as we were arriving.
Tomorrow night I will show you pictures of the trucks and the Parade of Lights.
Looks like our part of Indiana would look like if we had hills. Are you friends on Facebook with Miriam Chrisenberry? She was McBery on Xanga. They live just north of us, and they have at least one camel. Her husband was trying to help mama camel’s baby stand up, and mama camel didn’t like that and bit him. Left teeth marks on his back.
Yes, I am friends with Miriam. I forgot about their camel biting him.
Is there a TFC truck stationed in the area, or did you take a truck and a car separately? I love the shots of the buggies, and of the animals! The veggies look wonderful!
There are several permanent chapels in Ohio, plus they have an International Chapel that goes to truck shows and churches during the spring/summer/fall. It is stationed in at the International Office during the winter. That means we went in a car this year.
Oops — I meant to say that I, too, thought of Miriam Chrisenberry and her camel. I think she lives in Indiana.
Yes, I think the Chrisenberry’s have a camel (or more). Someday I hope to meet them in person.
