Saturday Evening, April 14
The baby shower for Nsimba and Elizabeth focused on books.
Diane and Hannah did a great job in coordinating toys, food, and other items to book titles.
The upper left was kept empty until Nsimba arrived so the name for baby in Lingala could be added. I think Lingala is his mother tongue. He also speaks French and Portuguese.
This was from Nsimba after he and Elizabeth arrived.
Elizabeth’s chair is ready for her.
Baby sock flowers
Each of these baby items had a special meaning from Diane to Nsimba and Elizabeth. The only one I remember for sure is the tiny white dress (second item from left) because it was a baby gift to us when Diane was born. (I think it was from Cerwin’s boss and his wife.) Our daughter Deb also wore it before I passed it on to Diane when Elizabeth was born.
Diane said that each of her girls wore it home from the hospital.
This is us holding Elizabeth (our first grandchild – almost 32 years ago) when she came home from the hospital – wearing the white dress.
Back to the baby shower. Cerwin filling napkin diapers with cookie “pooh.”
There were peanut butter oatmeal with craisins and peanut butter oatmeal with chocolate chips.
Lydia filling little pastry cups.
About that time Mark called us outside to see the deer in the church yard. By the time we got there they were heading into the woods.
Water and Meadow Tea (Garden Tea to some people)
Vegetable Pizza
Diane giving everything a last check.
We are ready for guests.

More tomorrow night.
What an adorable idea for a baby shower, pairing books with related gifts! Very creative!
I loved how Hannah and Diane used books for this party.
The decorations are so imaginative and delightful. How did they ever think of them? And the food looks delicious!
I think the creativity took more than one evening. 🙂
I remember reading books by Lois Lenske. I wonder if her books are still in the library. I enjoyed seeing the picture of you and Cerwin several years ago.
You can get Lois Lenske books on Amazon. 🙂 Glad you enjoyed the old picture of us with our first grandchild. Now that baby is 31 and expecting our second great-grandchild.
What a very clever idea for a baby shower — and so nicely executed. What is the flavor of “meadow tea”? — we generally see only boxed teas, which can be brewed or made in the sun (sun tea).
It is a mint tea – the flavor of mint is determined by the variety of garden tea you use.
How interesting — mint tea to me is regular tea with a sprig of mint! Such interesting regional differences!
So special and I love the book theme. I was recently at a baby shower wherein they asked we bring a book instead of a card. I loved that idea. To me, books are the best gift for any occasion 🙂 I will be keeping Elizabeth in my prayers.
Thank you for praying for Elizabeth. I was also at a baby shower recently that asked for books in place of cards. For Nsimba and Elizabeth they books as part of the gift.
