We stopped in at Satara for a rest stop. There is where we would be staying during our second night in Kruger.
The photos will show you the scenery and animals we saw during the late morning and afternoon.
Ostrich
Kori Bustard – the world’s largest flying bird. Phil told us it is rare to see these. An adult is between three and four feet in height.
Southern ground horn bill
I don’t have a note on this bird, but it may be a bee-eater of some kind.
Our first sighting of a steenbok. They are very tiny. A buck is about 22 inches tall.
During the flood in 2000, the river covered the bridge.
Goliath Heron
Water Buck
Herd of impala
Kudu competition
Elephant conference
Lunch at Olifants restaurant
View from the restaurant
Hippos at another viewpoint
We stopped at our “chalet/motel” in the middle of the afternoon
A beautiful moth
I expect this is Jared’s hand, because he is the one who captured critters.
These bushbuck were in the yard of our motel.
Day 1 in Kruger continued in my next post.
My goodness — was there an animal that you didn’t see? These photos are wonderful! Were you as protected at your motel here as at Kate & Phil’s, or were the animals free close to your lodging?
Yes, we were protected with electric fence at our lodging.
so many impressive sightings ~ wondering if there is anything you did NOT see!?
We didn’t see a cheetah in Kruger, but did see one at the other safari.
