Tuesday morning, March 13
We were up early and leaving Phil and Kate’s farm – Nyalaland – at 5:45 am.
It was bittersweet to say goodbye to the farm.
My eyes searched everything so I wouldn’t forget this drive.
Phil was our host and driver for the next three days. Kate has been to Kruger many times and the van was full with 10 people so she was able to get in some grand-parenting time with their little granddaughter.
Ngala Private Game Reserve is situated within the western boundary of Kruger National Park, at the heart of the South African lowveld This was donated to Kruger and includes 35,500 acres. The entirety of Kruger includes 4.8 million acres.
Baboons were our first sighting
Zebra
Impala
Kudu
Wildebeest
It was fun to see animals in new territory – even what we had seen before.
Swainson’s Francolin or spurfowl – female
Male
Herd of impala
African Longtailed Shrike
Impala
Remember the McDonald’s M on the rear end of the impala. 🙂
Crested francolin
Concal
Carmine bee-eater
Lapwing Plover
Can you find the male lion? Jere did. We told him he needs to get a job as a spotter for Phil. 🙂
It was so far away, I couldn’t get a great picture of him. It is in the center on the horizon.
Kudu. Phil thought he was about 10 years old.
Common Dwarf Mongoose
Zebra and impala often graze together
The landscape was so different from what we had seen in previous days.
There were many scrubby and dead trees.
Phil thought this elephant was 45-55 years old
Hippos in the river
Egyptian Geese
Marabou Stork
Continued tomorrow evening
I will never see the Golden Arches the same way anymore. Haha. I couldn’t see the lion in either picture, but my eyes are not good. (Astigmatism all my life, and now glaucoma.) We had similar scenery where we lived.
I loved the scenery in Kruger.
Great to see larger herds of the zebra and the impala — beautiful shots of beautiful animals! And the birds are wonderful too! I saw the lion in the larger photo — it amazes me that you could simply drive through the park, with all the animals roaming free!I had a nice surprise today — a post card from Kristen from Kruger National Park! It sounds as if you all enjoyed the trip!
How neat that Kristen sent you a card. I know she bought a lot of cards.
It was a wonderful surprise! I’ve loved seeing your photos, and they’re every bit as good as those on the card!
such fun ~ was the weather hot?
Yes, we were there at the end of their summer. It was between 90 and 100 most days.
