Sunday, March 11 – Late Morning and Afternoon
Shortly after getting back to camp, I met Fisana carrying everyone’s dirty laundry.
Notice she is balancing it on her head and is not using her hands.
I stopped her and asked if I could try it. She said, “No, it will be too heavy for you.” I eventually persuaded her to let me try it, then, despite her protests, I walked with her to the laundry, telling her that I was her helper for the day. Of course I had to use my hands to keep it balanced. She enjoyed that.
Jesse interviewed Kate for a school project.
Jere got him started, then he was on his own.
Later in the morning Kate brought Jared a Kicking Beetle that had fallen into one of her kitchen bowls.
She knew of Jared’s interest in bugs and critters.
About that time we noticed that an African Pigmy Kingfisher had accidently flown into the house and settled on a log in the dining room ceiling.
It eventually found an open door or window.

Phil and Kate delighted Jana and the boys with a late lunch that consisted of making personal pizzas in their outdoor pizza oven.
Phil checking the pizza oven
After experimenting with the first crust, they determined that it was not hot enough. This was something fairly new to them. I think they told us they built the oven several months ago and had only used it a few times.

The oven is looking hot
What fun to make and eat personal pizzas.
Milk and pizza makes Jesse happy.
Giving a piece to one of the dogs. I think it is Jethro.

In my next post I will tell you about sitting in a blind watching for animals.
Love the pics of Fisana and of the bugs and the bird! I think I’d have mixed emotions about a down day, wanting to see everything, but being tired enough for some relaxation. I’m sure Kate enjoyed not having to work quite so hard! The pizza looks like fun — especially helping Kate and Phil learn to make it!
A down late morning and early afternoon was nice. It gave us time to catch up on our journals and hear more stories from Phil and Kate.
Now you can carry more laundry at home and free up your hands ~ 🙂
For sure. 🙂
