Thursday Afternoon and Evening, March 8
It appeared to be raining in the distance, but we could see for forever, so didn’t think we would drive into it.
Before long we were in a downpour.
Then there was a pretty rainbow
Crossing the mountain
This is a tufa waterfall.
A tufa waterfall is formed when water running over dolomite rock absorbs calcium and deposits rock formations more rapidly than they erode the surrounding rock. Instead of wearing the rock away, it builds it up and reroutes the waterfall.
Going through the tunnel again.
It was surprising to see that the river was already muddy from the afternoon rain.
A truck stop
Loved how the sun shined through the clouds. Sunbeams like this always reminds me of Jesus’ return.
People were closing up their roadside stands.
A handsome bull
Going home from work
This was the largest truck stop we saw in Africa – and the trucks we saw were parked along the road.
We stopped in for fuel and got our front window washed.
Going home from work
I wonder if they are going home too. 🙂
The giraffes were still close to Phil and Kate’s driveway.
At first we thought this was a warthog – but it is a baby rhino.
Baby rhinos make me smile. I think God may have had some parts left over from other animals when he created the rhinoceros. 🙂
Everything looked refreshed after the rain.
These two female nyala peered at us as we drove in the lane.
Back at the house someone discovered a bat hanging from the eaves of the outdoor seating area.
These guys just ignored it – hanging above their heads – and played Dutch Blitz.
It was a beautiful warm evening.
Jesse gathered some of the leaves that were floating in the pool before jumping in for a swim.
Looking at the house – from the pool.
Jethro yapping and splashing
Jesse wanted me to take a picture of him standing on his head in the pool. 🙂
The evening sky was pretty at sunset.
The Dutch Blitz game was still going one as the sky got dark.
Suppertime was usually at 7 pm.
Meat and potatoes
This salad was delicious – makes me hungry just posting the picture.
It was another fabulous day in South Africa.
Love the tufa waterfall — and the animals! It looks like the way home was a time of rest after a lot of exciting activity!
I had never heard of a tufa waterfall until we saw this one and Kate told us about it.

Baby rhinos are so cute – even though they are a bit ugly.
