Saturday, March 3
We had breakfast on an outside patio at a restaurant near our hotel.
We called two Uber drivers to take us to Table Mountain. Yes, we had to get used to the driver being on the right and driving on the left side of the road.
Josh making sure Jared had suntan lotion on the back of his neck.
On the platform before entering the area where a cable car would take us to the top of the mountain – looking down on the line of people waiting to climb the stairs.
Our view of Cape Town
In the holding area – waiting for our cable car.
One cable car goes up as the other comes down.
Each cable car holds sixty-five people. They transport about 800 people per hour.
Looking down on the group who were waiting for the next car.
Inside the cable car
The top
Looking down toward the building which we left a few minutes ago.
The view from the top was breathtaking.
We were glad for a clear day. There are times when fog covers the mountain. Locals call the layer of fog a “table cloth”.
The top of the mountain
We watched a few climbers.
Robben Island (in Table Bay) is where Nelson Mandela was in jail for twenty-seven years. Robben Island is now a museum and has been open to tourists since 1997.
And Jere wonders why his boys like climbing on rocks. 🙂
Is Jana pushing Ian or keeping him from jumping?
I think Jared found most lizard critters on the mountain.
Jesse relaxing on top of a rock pile
I was not the only one taking pictures of flowers.
Jesse found another rock pile to conquer.
Oh, Josh, I hope that is safer than it looks from my perspective.
Josh taking a photo of other visitors – with their cell phone.
A family of dassies
We decided this was probably the mother – taking a sunbath – while her brood played on the rocks. 🙂
The children in the area enjoyed a close-up view of a lizard.
Taking a break in the snack shop.
Checking out the souvenir store.
Looking down on a snack/table area – from the souvenir shop.
A final view of the area from the top.

Going down
Before going up the mountain, a Cable Mountain staff person took our photo – against a blank wall. By the time we came down, the photo was ready – making it appear that the photo was taken outside or in a cable car.
I was able to download these from their website.
As we exited the building, Cerwin was fascinated to learn that the cable cars were operated by Deutz Dieselpower.
Jesse decided he needed a hat, and bought one in the gift shop at the base of the mountain.
When walking in the windy, third-floor hallway at our hotel, it blew off his head and landed on the floor below.
He quickly ran down three flights of stairs to retrieve it.
So ended our afternoon – with Jesse happily wearing his hat again.
Tomorrow night I will tell you about our last evening in Muizenberg.
#1 ~ not sure I could handle the heights ~ yikes!
#2 ~ love the dassies!
#3 ~ sure wondering the names of the birds! 🙂
The dassies were funny I didn’t learn the names of the birds.
