Marcy, Cookie and Me

Tuesday February 13

Cookie (Emma Jean by birth) and I had a delightful drive to Marcy’s house – where we were invited for lunch – to celebrate our February birthdays.

I arrived at Cookie’s place early, and set my GPS for Marcy’s house, because I wasn’t sure of the shortest way from her area. It said that we would arrive at 11:35 am.Β

Lunch was set for noon, so we meandered, very slowly over winding back roads – chatting and enjoying the scenery.

I actually added ten minutes to what could have been a fifteen-minute drive. πŸ™‚

One thing we know – dining at Marcy’s house will be delightful.

Her tulips were from another dining experience – when she took tulips for her friend and her friend gave her tulips. πŸ™‚

Since it was only ladies on this day, we enjoyed lunch at their small kitchen table.

Mark was out of state – helping with a construction project at a daughter’s house. Gene and Cerwin enjoyed having a quiet afternoon at our respective houses. πŸ™‚

Lunch is delightful with good friends.

Yummy vegetable soup

Homemade cheese bread. Yum!

There was also a salty mix, pickles, and a foamy mandarin orange salad.

Dessert

Marcy also served ice cream with the cake.

Then it was time to relax with coffee.

Notice the sunshine in this picture. After a cloud cover moved in, the room looked like this:

We always spend a bit of time catching up on each others children. One of Mark and Marcy’s granddaughters was graduating from a police academy a day or two after our lunch.

Cookie kindly took the opportunity to thank Marcy and me for our part in her Christian life.

Marcy led her to a personal walk with Jesus when our children were young – our youngest were not even born when Marcy introduced me to her.

She thanked me for my part in discipling her by listening to her questions and helping her through her sometimes struggles.

How delightful to be together for several hours. We see each other now and then, but rarely spend quality time together except at our once-a-year birthday celebration. (We miss our friend Joanne who lost her earthly life to cancer a few years ago.)

Each of our birthdays is in February. Joanne was the oldest (1943). I am next (1944). Cookie and Marcy were born in 1945 – six days apart.

We don’t remember when we started this birthday celebration or who had the first one. We do know that our children were young. Now we each have married grandchildren and Marcy and I are great-grandmothers.
