Birds & Cookies on a Snowy Day

| Birds, Food

Saturday, January 6 The goldfinches are just beginning to get their yellow winter feathers. I like that the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker keeps hanging around. This is another view of the Starling with a “bib”. With this picture I noticed that the “bib” is a bit off to the right side instead of under it’s neck. There […]

Thursday, January 4 Diane, I thought you might like to see a few birds that were enjoying the suet ring you gave me. Male cardinals look so pretty on cold, snowy days. We have a starling with a bib. Not sure if it was hatched this way or got involved in a fight. A Downy […]

Taking Care of Our Birds

Wednesday, January 3 It was the first time I saw a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker this winter – and she pointed out to me that it was time to refill the suet feeder. Empty feeders are the result of spending five days in Maine. ๐Ÿ™‚ This was a gift to me – from Mark and Diane – […]

Traveling Home From Maine

Tuesday, January 2 It was a cold, clear morning when we left Mark and Diane’s house at 6:45. We could see the sun coming up just over the horizon. The world was coming alive on I-95. The super moon was low in the sky in the west. The sunrise was beginning to lighten the sky […]

Monday, January 1 The chilly view from our bedroom window on the first day of 2018. It wasn’t as cold as Saturday (minus 21) but the temperature was still below zero. The view from the dining area of their kitchen – looking toward the White Mountains of New Hampshire. How do birds not freeze to […]

We prepared a slide show of our family’s baby pictures for our Christmas celebrations this year – asking everyone to identify the baby. I can now post these – after showing these to our Maine family on December 31. For this post, they are in order of age and family. My step-mother, Velma   Cerwin […]

Saturday in Maine

Saturday, December 30 We woke up to a frigid Maine morning – minus 21 degrees at the coldest. I went outside after it had warmed a few degrees to capture a few photos. A picnic at their outside table did not look inviting. (We were home only a few days when Diane sent us another […]

Visiting Lydia at Work

Thursday, December 28 I almost missed these pictures – which should have come before our trip to Maine. After posting last night, I suddenly remembered these pictures in our cell phones. Since Lydia recently moved to Pennsylvania, we wanted to visit where she works – in the kitchen of Lancaster General Hospital. Lydia, Diane, Abby, […]

Friday, December 29 We left home early for our annual end-of-year drive to Maine to visit our family who moved there just over 31 years ago to help start a new church in the area of Brunswick. It was a cloudy day, so we weren’t afforded a pretty sunrise. This was our first drive across […]

A Starling in It’s Winter Plumage

ย Tuesday, December 26 I am always a bit surprised the first time I see a starling in its winter feathers, after having gotten used to seeing them in their spring, summer, and fall dress code of a purple/black metallic sheen. They are a noisy bird. They are not native to the United States. My bird […]

Cerwin, Diane, Lydia and I were invited to Nate and Abby’s for a light supper. (Josiah was attending another Christmas dinner.) We took soup and ingredients for grilled cheese sandwiches while Abby made hors d’oeuvres. These were made with brie cheese, jelly and nuts. My husband, Cerwin, and I have four children, seventeen grandchildren (2 are in Heaven), and 19 great grandchildren. Cerwin spent 40 years as a truck driver for Ferrellgas. We are both retired from serving with Transport For Christ - a ministry to truck drivers - and love our life in rural Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
