Saturday Morning, May 20
Ken Landis Funk (left) was the MC for this breakfast.
After introducing Sunil (from India), Sunil told us a bit about himself and his family.
This chapter usually holds their breakfast at Yoder’s in New Holland, but once a year they meet at the Garden Café in Landis Homes Retirement Community so several retired drivers can come to the breakfast.
Meeting at Landis Homes each May began several years ago when Raymond Hoover (who faithfully attended the breakfast) developed health issues that forced him into a wheel chair. That is when he and his wife, Martha (to his left) moved to Landis Homes.
Sitting around the table – clockwise: Martha Hoover, Janet Eberly, Parke Lefever, David Weaver, Mike Bixler, Ken Landis Funk, Sunil, Jeff Batzer, Cerwin, my empty chair, Doris and Warren High. Hidden from this shot: Leroy Newswanger is to Warren’s left, then Raymond Hoover.
Janet Eberly played two songs on her accordion. Her parents gave her this instrument when she was a young girl.
Jeff Batzer, TFC Executive Vice President, challenged us from the Word.
His Bible looks well used.
I was sitting next to Warren High’s wife, Doris – so I asked Cerwin to take a picture of the two Doris Highs. 🙂
Sunil and Jeff shared business cards following the breakfast.
TFC is looking for contacts in India because of the many truckers there.
I noticed these pretty flowers outside the window.
It was a good morning.
That’s fun to have another Doris High in the group — when my dad was a medical intern, there were 7 Charlie’s in th class — they’d come into a room and say “Hi, Charlie, hi, Charley, Hi Charlie, etc.”!
We always say, “Hi, Doris High” when we see each other. 🙂
