I took pictures of these seed pods on a bush near Mark and Diane’s driveway while waiting for everyone to get to the car to begin our morning shopping trip.
I have no idea what kind of bush it is, but thought these seed pods are rather pretty.
Hannah was looking for sneakers – and found what she wanted – while the rest of us just shopped. I found a pair of summer sneakers. Photo by Cerwin
We went to Heidi’s in Auburn for brunch.
After getting back to the house, the girls went to their house to prepare to work on the farm. We set up a table to play golf, enjoy tea and coffee, and watch the birds on this cold, cloudy, snowy day. I told Diane that she must have a good window (above) for plants and succulents, because they are thriving there.
Diane, Cerwin, and I spent the afternoon playing golf.
We made sure the table was placed near their living room window so we could watch the birds. They have been seeing a Pileated Woodpecker and I didn’t want to miss seeing it. (Above – a female downy woodpecker)
Blue Jay
Black-capped Chickadee
Chipping Sparrow
There he is! The Pileated Woodpecker.
My bird book tells me it is a male because of the red patch of feathers off its bill. The females patch is black.
They are about the size of a crow.

I love spending time with our Maine family.
It looks terribly cold there — but I love the photos of the birds (you and fwren see the best birds!).
We have been there when it was colder. It was in the 20s this year. We have been there when it was -9. It was fun seeing the Pileated Woodpecker.
