Friday Evening, November 6
This was a very belated birthday meal for Kristen.
There was a lot going on back in spring with their daughter, Jana’s health, then it was the busy summer. Now we finally got a date together – and it happened during their twenty-fifth anniversary week.
By-the-way, for those who have not heard, Jana had her gallbladder removed during the summer. It was one of the first things tested and it appeared to be okay, so they went on to do CAT scans and MRI’s on almost every part of her body. The medical team eventually went back to the gallbladder, removed it – and it solved her year-long problem with nausea and pain.
Fresh flowers on the window sill next to our table.
Kristen and Jere enjoyed the ambience while I tried to get a picture of the pretty water bottle and candle in the center of our table.
The chef gave us a sampler of his homemade applesauce.
Jere and Kristen each got a Roasted Beet & Poached Pear Salad and assured us that it was delicious. It was made with local lettuce, Millwood Aged Blue Cheese, toasted almonds and apple cider-tarragon vinaigrette.
Cerwin and I shared this Roasted Sweet Pepper & Eggplant Bisque – and loved it.
Kristen and Cerwin chose the Thistle Creek Farm Grass-Fed Dry-Aged Beef with fried Red Thumb potatoes, seasonal vegetable, reduction sauce and chimichurri.
Jere and I chose the Pheasant. (It is not on the menu tonight as I am entering this post, so I cannot find the official name.) 🙂 However, it was delicious to the last bite. The side was mashed roasted pumpkin, red beet and sweet potato, sauteed greens and reduction sauce.
Jere and Cerwin liked their Apple-Pumpkin Streusel Cake for dessert – it was topped with Caramel Sauce and had Singing Dog Vanilla Ice Cream on the side.
Kristen and I enjoyed the incredibly delicious Organic Pumpkin Creme Brûlée. As you can see, they added a candle to Kristen’s.
I couldn’t decide which picture I liked best, so I framed both. 🙂
Taking our children out for their birthdays is one of my favorite days of the year.
A belated happy birthday, and a happy anniversary to Kristen (and Jere)! You always find such interesting places to have birthday dinners
Jere and Kristen said that night that we live in a great area for making restaurant choices.
I think I would have chosen the bisqué and the pheasant too!
You would have enjoyed it!
