As soon as we noticed that this tree in our front yard was not joining the others in growing new leaves this spring, we discussed a few ways for taking it down.
I was not comfortable with Cerwin taking it down and getting our sons to help.
It is not super large, but it is very tall.
Cerwin agreed that it was probably not a good idea to tackle it himself, so he called Amos, our area’s very skilled tree surgeon.
When we had the Hershey dinner in our yard a few weeks ago, we discovered that several other family members – who also live in our woodlot – have trees they want to have cut down, so we got a bid on all four trees.
We had 2 trees taken down last month. They were both very tall hickorys. One was growing out of the deck. The original owner apparently planted it there, not thinking what would happen when it grew up. The other tree was just too close to the deck, and hanging over the bedroom where our grand-daughter sleeps. The 2 of them cost $500, but they were in very difficult spots, and the cutters cleaned everything up afterwards. No one wanted the wood. Some friends of mine are going to come take down 2 dead apple trees for me whenever they can.
I am always sad when a tree has to be taken down. This is some kind of nut – either hickory or shellbark.
That was quite a tree — I’m sorry it had to come down, but it was a good idea to have somebody else do it!
It will come down on July 2. There will be more pictures then.
