Sunday, April 19
We were out of the motel early because we had a two-hour drive to church – and there was a time change partway through the drive (Central to Eastern Standard), so we left at 6 AM to get to Cutler Ridge by 9 AM.
We thought this was a clever advertisement.
We drove through an area that was filled with energy-providing windmills.
Acres and acres and acres of them.
About this time we came to a detour, and when we took it, twenty minutes was added to our time on the GPS. We were glad that we planned to arrive at Clayton & Peggy’s church, Cutler Ridge, half-an-hour early.
It had just begun raining when we arrived – ten minutes before the beginning of church.
It was Love Feast and Communion weekend for Cutler Ridge. The Love Feast and Communion service was the previous night.
I waited until church was over to take pictures. The benches that are now empty were quite full on this morning as there were quite a few visitors and visiting ministers for their weekend “Farewell” service.
I remember two things that one of the ministers said that morning…
“Don’t be afraid to be afraid.” (That’s when we know how totally reliant we are on God for the outcome.)
“We are not here on earth for a vacation. We are here to serve God.
I took these pictures following the delicious meal.
There was ham, potatoes, and Corn Chip Salad. The bread was unleavened bread from their communion service the night before. Dessert consisted of a wide variety of homemade pies. I asked Peggy for the salad recipe and have discovered a new favorite salad to serve to large groups.
By the time we were ready to leave, it was raining quite heavily.
It was so good to see our friends Clayton and Peggy (fwren on Xanga).
We connected through our blogs many years ago and stay in touch online and when possible in person.
Peggy took this picture of us and sent it to me after we got home.
Thanks, Clayton and Peggy for sharing a wonderful morning with us and introducing us to many of your friends.
Our destination was a motel near Dayton, Ohio, that evening, and we spent the first hour driving through lots of rain – heavy and light.
This Pepperidge Farm truck kind of summarizes how I feel about life – and this day was certainly not ordinary.
I was blessed.
Too bad it was a rainy day for your drive homeward, but how nice to have a visit with Peggy and Clayton along the way. Those are nice shots of the 4 of you!
Thanks.
awwww ~ what a nice post! Wasn’t it a wonderful day! 🙂
It was a wonderful day.
You had quite a trip and how nice that you got to spend time with fwren — I liked seeing the two of you together. I’ve followed along on your trip and enjoyed seeing the country through your camera. I haven’t had the opportunity to do much picture-taking lately as my 93 year old mother fell and broke her hip two months ago and has had two surgeries (not totally successful) and is not doing real well at the present (anesthesia has increased her dementia issues) — I’m her primary caregiver and there will be some hard decisions to be made in the days ahead. I live 40 minutes away from her present location so I spend lots of time on the road.
Thanks! Oh, wow! I will be praying for you and the decisions that you need to make concerning your mother. We had a rough couple of months after Cerwin’s mother fell and broke her hip, but she is doing fairly well right now.
