We were up early and on the road before I could take good pictures.
Our first stop was for breakfast at a travel plaza on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
By the time we got to western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio, the turnpike was alive with traffic.
By 9:30 we were ready for a break, and a hot, hazelnut latte sounded good, because it was cold and rainy.
We drove through rain for the next few hours.

We were surprised to meet our friend Nelson Martin when we stopped at a truck stop for an afternoon break. I had talked to him on the phone – something about our upcoming Truck Rally – so knew we were traveling the same direction, but did not expect to catch up to him.
Our first stop in Terre Haute (Indiana) was at the motel we had reserved.
It was a beautiful, comfortable room with attractive décor.
We didn’t have lunch – just a few snacks – so went for supper at 4 PM. That worked out nice because they were still serving lunch, which is cheaper than supper.
After getting back from supper – and a one-mile walk on the treadmill – I noticed a pretty sunset outside our motel window.

The next morning I learned that our friends Clayton and Peggy (fwren on Xanga) were also in Terre Haute for the night. We were disappointed to have missed each other – but neither of us announce online when we are traveling. 🙂 So we made plans to meet them on our way home.
How sad to miss Clayton and Peggy — but good that you could meet them on the way home!
We could hardly believe that we stayed in motels not far apart. But by the time we knew it, we were on our way to East St Louis.
Still can’t believe we were close enough to holler at each other and had no clue ~ what a bummer! 🙂
Bummer for sure.
