This fire bush is one of the few pretty things left in our yard.
I decided to remember the beauty with a photo before it also gives in to shedding its leaves.
It looks brilliant next to the other trees and bushes with bare branches.
Some trees are not totally bare, but they still look wintery.
The trees that do have leaves, are brown and dry.
The floor of the woods and pavilion area is covered with leaves that used to be green – giving us summer shade.
It was only a few months ago that this lilac bush was beautiful and covered with pretty lavender flowers.
The fern stems are also prepared for a cold winter.
Our hosta are telling us that their season is over for another year.
The once beautiful roses look aged and ready to be clipped.
Most of the green of summer and color of fall is gone.
There are only a few trees left in our yard with colorful leaves still attached to the branches.
But by the looks of the ground below, they will soon join the others with bare branches.
Then as I was walking up the steps to our patio, I was surprised by a bit of beauty – the last four flowers of the season.
Two light lavender and a pink yarrow.
And the prettiest of all, a yellow one.
I went back inside my warm house to finish a mailing for one of our staff chaplains and was so surprised the next time I looked outside.
It was snowing!
I guess winter’s here, at least in your area! The trees do look a little sad, but that bush is brilliant! It’s definitely been fall here for the last few days — cloudy all day, but no rain. And the temps have been down 20-30 degrees from a couple of weeks ago! Sadly, we’ll get no rain this time, and our temps will bounce back up again starting tomorrow!
Winter is here!
It snowed here today too, but it didn’t stick. It snowed a lot in South Bend. Tom went to pick up our order of chicken, and it took him twice as long as it should have. He said the roads were very slippery.
It didn’t stick here either – except on the bushes. I wasn’t brave enough to try driving tonight.
We had flurries today, but had a skiff on the ground this morning when we awoke ~ 🙂
I had to look up what a skiff is. 🙂 I never heard that used except as a boat. I learned that it is also a light dusting of snow.
LOL — I had to look it up too, but I thought it was just me that didn’t know what a skiff is since we don’t have snow here!
I thought maybe it was a regional thing, but when I talked to a friend from the Philadelphia area this morning, he knew what it meant. However, he lived in Minnesota for several years.
