Hilltop Fun Fest at Slate Hill Mennonite Church ~ Continued
The release of 100 sky lanterns was the grand finale of the Fun Fest evening.
The church is located on a hill and was a great place for releasing the lanterns.
A group from the church sang hymns as the lanterns drifted toward the sky.
I had seen one of these several years ago and thought that was a great experience, so seeing 100 was an awesome experience.
The pictures do not give the experience true justice, but give you just a small idea of what we experienced.
Wow — how beautiful! I’m intrigued as to how they are made — they look like inverted luminarias (a southwestern Christmas tradition is to put candles inside paper lunchbags anchored with sand and line a pathway with them) — paper bags with burning marshmallows somehow attached to the openings at the bottoms — also almost like mini hot-air balloons. How lovely they are!
I think they originated in the orient. The first time I heard of them, they came from someone who had been in Thailand.
special event ~ gorgeous photos!
Yes, and thanks!
