Saturday, June 7 at Slate Hill Mennonite Church
Cerwin and I were pleased to take a mobile chapel to Hilltop Fun Fest at Slate Hill Mennonite Church where many of their outreach ministries were featured.
Gene and Dottie were our contact people with the church, as they have been our friends for many years and serve on our Advisory Council.
Because of bringing a big rig we had to arrive early, so after we were set up, they gave us a tour of their church.
Dottie posed in the library where she has been the librarian for many years.
Items that the children could earn with their tickets.
Each vendor was given a roll of tickets to give to those who visited their site.
When we got to the entrance area, several guys (and a gal) were trying to set up a game that was going to be available for the young people.
Gene and Cerwin noticed that they needed help to attach the table legs and offered their assistance.
The Funfest team and vendors were invited to gather for prayer before the guests began to arrive.
Free meals had to be ordered ahead of time so the organizers knew how many chicken legs to barbecue. In addition to the chicken, there was potato salad, apple sauce, and juice.
After everyone had eaten, someone went around delivering ice cream sandwiches and popsicles.
There was also popcorn, hot dogs, and snow cones.
Everything was free.
We enjoyed being parked next to the CMA tent.
We had interesting conversations with several of the guys and gals, and were blessed by their testimonies. Each of the guys manning the tent on this night came to know the Lord after living a careless, drug-filled life, and riding with outlaw gangs.
This man was on drugs and homeless as a young man. He came to know Christ through Teen Challenge and is now a teacher at New Life For Girls.
I never tire of hearing salvation stories.
We enjoyed telling a lot of people about Transport For Christ.
When Paul told us that his last name was Nisly, I asked if he is related tor our friends Merle and Rita from Red Lake, Ontario. He said they are cousins. (It’s a small world!)
Most visitors had never seen a chapel ~ and those visiting from the community never heard of TFC.
There was continuous music – with a variety of styles. This was a barbershop quartet.
There were activities everywhere – entirely surrounding the church.
This lady served with a ministry to handicapped adults.
At this ministry vendor you could get free books.
We enjoyed visiting staff from the other ministries and seeing their displays.
It was a relaxing, delightful evening.
At 9:00 PM everyone was invited to the cemetery where there was going to be a release of sky lanterns.
The view of the chapel from my spot in the cemetery.
I like when it gets dark and Cerwin turns the lights on the chapel. It looks so attractive.
It was a beautiful, clear evening with a bright moon.

Tomorrow night I will post pictures of the sky lanterns.
That looks like a wonderful outreach event! Was going to ask about sky lanterns, but I’ll wait till tomorrow!
I was going to post the first picture of the sky lanterns, but decided to make you wait. 🙂
What a wonderful event. Thank you for sharing it with us. Looking forward to the pictures of the sky lanterns.
