Many of you know that our youngest daughter, Deb, rehabs tiny wildlife babies whose mothers have died.
Last week she was given what she calls, “a once in a life-time experience”, being able to play mother to a baby fawn.
The veterinarian thinks he was probably two days old when a truck driver noticed him near his dead mother – which had been hit by a vehicle. He and another trucker rescued him from sure death along a busy road.
.It happened very close to Roy and Deb’s house, so someone soon called her about caring for this helpless little guy.
Last week one day when she was in our area to show some of her animals to a youth group, she brought him to Jere and Kristen’s house.
The neighbor girls also came to see him.
Jesse and Bucky quickly became good friends.
He loves to run and jump so it is difficult to get a picture of him standing still.
Then he was back to give Jesse more kisses.
Then he was off to running again.
I remember seeing a fawn one time in the wild, but had never been so close to one of these incredibly beautiful animals.
Deb will keep him only long enough to give him a good start and then place him in a safe environment where there are other deer.
Her desire is to find a place not too far away, so she and Roy can watch him grow up.
Wonderful photos of a fun experience. Does Deb tag the animals in some way when she releases them?
Not usually. She may consider tagging him so she will always recognize him.
What fun that would be to be able to recognize a deer as the fawn she fostered!
They tend to remember who raises them; so we will see how that works; we don’t plan on tagging him but unsure if the people that get him will. I just want him to have a chance at life; running and playing with other deer and getting to enjoy the outdoors in a safe manor.
Thanks for your input, Deb.
How interesting — so he might even come back to visit you! I love that you are giving him that chance at live, and sending him off for a normal life — and what an opportunity for you to be part of nature..
Bucky is a beautiful little creature. The pictures of him kissing Jesse are so sweet.
That’s something Jesse will never forget.
He is so tiny and fragile. I know Roy and Deb are delighted to give him a chance at life.
