Saturday Evening, April 12
We arrived early to set up the projector and display table.
When we were finished with the setup, I had opportunity to photograph the pretty flowers on each table.
They were donated by Cremer Florist, Hanover, Pennsylvania.
Then I checked out the silent auction ~ and did some bidding of my own. However, I was outbid on every item on which I placed a price. 🙂
There were delicious-looking baked goods. Cerwin thought he wanted the apple pie (third from right) ~ and bid on it several times ~ but somebody wanted it more than him and kept bidding higher. I think it went for $30.00!
Marie and Grace were in charge of the silent auction and pleased that its benefit to TFC was $574.00.
Bill ~ the chapter’s contact person ~ welcomed the 190 people in attendance just before the meal.
He mentioned that the evening was a special honor to Jim (photo left) the former contact person who was killed last fall when his ultra-light plane crashed.
Pastor Larry from East Berlin gave the invocation.
The Dover Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary cooked and served an incredibly delicious ham and roast beef meal.
Following the meal we were blessed by delightful gospel music by Choraliers & Pearl.
Left to right, Carol, Kim, Dorothy, and Pearl.
Carol and Dorothy are sisters. Pearl is their mother. Kim is a family friend.
Mark (brother to Carol and Dorothy) and his wife Jamie.
Carol and Tim’s daughter, Hannah, was on stage for one song. Tim was in back of the room running the sound system.
Brian presented a challenging message ~ reminding us that we (the church) are the “bride of Christ.”
He gave a visual that has stayed with me ~ of a careless bride with uncombed hair and a tattered dress ~ saying there isn’t a bride in the world who would stand before her groom like that.
Yet we are often careless about our soul and spiritual appearance, wanting only to be coddled and entertained, and instead of serving the King of Kings with dedication, faithfulness, and humility, we allow bitterness, jealously, and all kinds of other emotions to take over our lives.
Pastor Larry and his son played two songs before the Choraliers came back on stage for the closing songs.
It was a delicious, delightful, refreshing, and challenging evening.
What a thought-provoking analogy! A bride with a tattered dress……thanks for sharing that visual. Wish I could hear a clip of the group singing!
You can probably hear them sing on their website.
