Female purple finches and female house finches are similar ~ so I cannot always tell one from the other.
From the internet: The sharpness of the markings is key for distinguishing female house finches and purple finches.
Female house finches have blurry streaks on their underparts and a relatively plain face, while female purple finches have sharply defined streaks and a well marked face with a distinct whitish eyebrow and fine streaks on the crown. .
will leave the same reply here as on Facebook ~ I think by looking at the Cornell photos, it is a house finch ~ what do YOU think? http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/house_finch/id
I think I agree with you. 🙂
Looks to me like a house finch — look at the eyebrow — but what do you think?
I agree with you.
From the looks of it there is a distinct difference in the thicker of the bill.
