Prayer Breakfast at Landis Homes

Saturday Morning, May 21

DSC_2673-001TFC’s Lancaster Chapter meets at Landis Homes each May so one of the men can join them. He has been at Landis Homes since a medical situation took away his ability to walk. We didn’t fit in the special room so had breakfast in the dining room.

DSC_2674-001After breakfast we fit in the room – because some could sit away from the table.

DSC_2686-001Cerwin told them about the new chapel construction for Texas.

DSC_2689-001Bunny gave a ministry update and read several encouraging chapel logs.

DSC_2705-001It is encouraging to hear about lives that are changed by Christ.

Birthday Breakfast with Jared

Saturday Morning, May 21

DSC_2664Jere always takes his children out for breakfast on or near their birthday. When he made plans to take Jared out for his 12th birthday, Jared asked if Grandpa and Grandma could come.

DSC_2666We didn’t think it would suit us because we were going to an 8:00 AM prayer breakfast. When Jere said they were going to be at Lititz Family Cupboard at 7:00 AM, we realized that it fit perfectly in our plans – to at least stop in and have coffee with them.

I love celebrating with our children and grandchildren.

It Was a Relaxing Evening

Friday, May 20

Manicures, Pedicures (1)This was our annual deluxe manicures and pedicures.

At Christmastime we gave everyone a list of things they could choose to do for their 2016 birthday gift. These three chose manicures and pedicures – Jana, Abby, and Deb.

Manicures, Pedicures (2)Deb came from southern Lancaster County and arrived a few minutes after the rest of us, and waited a bit for an available chair.

Manicures, Pedicures (8)Somewhere in this process we enjoyed hot rocks and an incredible massage.

Manicures, Pedicures (12)This was a fabulous-smelling cream.

Manicures, Pedicures (13)This is my favorite part of deluxe pedicures – when my feet are in paraffin and my legs are wrapped in hot towels.

Manicures, Pedicures (14)The girls enjoy getting interesting colored toe nails.

Manicures, Pedicures (15)I have been at other places that did an equally good job of pedicures, but I never had a better manicure. I don’t get polish on my nails, but asked to have them buffed. Jana did the same thing. Our fingernails were buffed so well that it felt and looked like they had been polished.

Our hands and feet thanked us for several days.

Manicures, Pedicures (16)This restaurant is in the same parking lot. I told the manager of VI Nails that we had a 6:30 PM reservation at the restaurant, then asked what time should we make our nail appointment. She said 5:00 PM.

The timing was perfect.

Manicures, Pedicures (17)Cerwin and Roy joined us for supper.

Manicures, Pedicures (20)We shared a cheese and nut appetizer

Manicures, Pedicures (21)The chef’s treat was something pickled – either apple or rhubarb – or both. I don’t think any of us wanted seconds. 🙂

Manicures, Pedicures (22)Several ordered the meatball special.

Manicures, Pedicures (23)Another choice was pulled pork.

Manicures, Pedicures (24)I had this delicious asparagus-leek soup.

Manicures, Pedicures (25)We shared these desserts.

Manicures, Pedicures (26)I just wanted to test the lighting – not their faces. 🙂

Manicures, Pedicures (27)The four of us were now quite relaxed and well-fed.

Manicures, Pedicures (28)Jana’s mom wanted a picture of the two of us for her scrapbook.

Manicures, Pedicures (29)That was a fun way to celebrate these three girls birthdays.

Birds & Blossoms of May 20

It was a beautiful day in our yard.

1 (1)I think this robin must have “heard” a worm on our patio, because it was here for quite awhile.

1 (4)Mr. Cardinal was looking for sunflower seeds.

2Our lilac bush has gotten quite large – and smells delightful.

DSC_2590I love the birds and blossoms of summer.

A New Chapel for Houston, Texas

A few weeks ago Cerwin got the word from TFC President, Scott Weidner, to begin construction on a new chapel for Houston, Texas.

Yay! I get a road trip to Houston – which will take us through the only two states in the lower forty eight in which we have never traveled – Mississippi and Louisiana. (After that, Hawaii will be the only state we have not seen.)

This chapel will be placed a the Flying J, US 59 & Highway 242, New Caney (Houston), Texas.

0 - 10-26-15Cerwin purchased this trailer for TFC at the end of last year in preparation for a new chapel, and was waiting for the word to begin construction.

1 - 11-5-15 a1The first job for Cerwin and Glenn is to remove the back doors.

1 - 11-5-15 b1Next, Glenn welds angle iron on the rear opening in preparation for a wall.

1-19-16The angle iron frame is finished.

5-18-16 (2)The base flooring was installed on Wednesday, May 18.

5-18-16 (3)The base floor is finished.

5-23-16 (5)Because Cerwin could not take a picture of himself, this doesn’t show how he and Glenn make sure the trailer walls are straight. Cerwin uses a skid loader and 4 x 4 piece of lumber, then Glenn checks it with an eight foot straight edge. (Used trailer walls are never quite straight after years of hauling freight.)
