Self-pity

Did you ever – or do you struggle with self-pity?
I have.
I expect everyone has – to some degree.
Self-pity is a bit different than depression, but can lead to depression.

1 (31)
Self-pity focuses on self.
Depression focuses on sadness.

Continual self-pity is a lifestyle of being consumed with self.
It is a battle of your mind.

You want people to notice your pain
But you are not about to tell anyone.

2 (16)

It is disabling.
It drags you down.
It is a deep pit.
It blames others.
It is a drug that produces a pitiful life-style.
It paralyzes your thoughts.
It causes you to withdraw from others.
It is a manifestation of pride.
It causes your mind to play games with reality.
It exaggerates.
It gossips.
It complains.
It disrespects authority.
It dwells on negative events.
It is a method of gaining attention.
It is super glue that keeps you stuck in the past.
It binds you to unforgiveness.
It shuns love.
It drains joy from your day.
It quenches trust in God.

2 (18)

Stop it!

Negative things will happen daily – at home, in your family, at work, in the news.
Don’t allow negative people to affect your attitude.
Living with or working with a negative person will drag you down.
Don’t be that negative person.

Negativity destroys life.
A complaining spirit is a downward spiral that will be used by Satan.

2 (20)

1 Corinthians 10:10 New Revised Standard Version (concerning the children of Israel):
Do not complain as some of them did, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

Some diseases have roots in self-pity.

Nobody can fix you.
Only you can take your thoughts captive.

Sam's Orchard (31)

Know that He created you to be a unique person.
Understand that you will never “fit in” because there is no one else like you in the world.

Purpose to take your thoughts captive by dwelling on God’s truth.
Give up vocalizing negative happenings.
Think on and vocalize good things.

Visiting Mother and Daisies (7)

Forgive
Vocalize your forgiveness to God.
If necessary vocalize your forgiveness to a person who has hurt you.

Look for someone to bless.
Be kind to everyone you meet.
Encourage friends.
Bless enemies.
Care about those who are experiencing loss or pain.

Two relaxing days (26)

Receive compliments.
Thank those who are kind to you.

Walk
Breathe
Notice beauty
Do something positive that you have been putting off – like cleaning a cupboard.

Think on good things.

Philippians 4:8 Living Bible
Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely, and dwell on the fine, good things in others. Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about.
