The day started with a beautiful sunrise.
For some reason, I saw a lot of blue jays.
They are known for their intelligence and complex social systems with tight family bonds.
Their fondness for acorns is credited with helping spread oak trees .
Blue Jays are smaller than crows, larger than robins.
Genders are similar in size and plumage, and plumage does not vary throughout the year.
When eating, they hold a seed or nut in feet and peck it open.
Blue Jays prefer tray feeders or hopper feeders on a post rather than hanging feeders, and they prefer peanuts, sunflower seeds, and suet.
Take time to enjoy God’s creation each day.
What lovely birds — were they migrating? Our California Jays are not nearly so nice!
No, we have them each day, all year long. Some days there are more than usual.
We used to have blue jays, but haven’t seen many the last couple of years. When we lived in the older house (which was where our front yard is now) we had a lot more birds and a lot more varieties. There were lots of bushes near the house, and I wonder if that is why we don’t have as many now? I planted a juniper, a flame bush, and a forsythia. Maybe when they grow larger we’ll have more birds. I once counted 10 cardinal couples at the old location. Actually I only counted 10 males at once. I assume their mates were nearby.
For some reason I rarely see more than one cardinal pair at a time.
