Because I watched Amos cut down my brother’s large tree at the homestead last fall, I recommended that Cerwin call him.

When he discussed the tree situation with my family a few weeks ago, Marlin, Nancy and Anne (who live in our same woodlot) mentioned that they would like an estimate on having him cut down some dead trees in their yards as well. Each was satisfied with the bid.

Taking down a dead tree in our family woodlot is a sad day for me.

But a dead tree is also an eyesore and a danger when close to the house.

(Sam is a second cousin to our children, a neighbor, and one of our man cave guys. He has some mornings free because of working on farms – for his dad and uncle – and offered to help Cerwin and Jere.)

Because we had so much help, Amos cut the trunk in sections to “earn” his bid.

I did not stay to watch, but he cut down two or three trees for them.

Now on to the funny part!

Cerwin asked for a little help to pull over this small, dead dogwood tree. If you look closely, you can see that I snapped this shot just as the rope tore. 🙂

While Cerwin went for a chain, Ian and Jared tried to pull the tree over – and with a little more time, they could have done it.

However, Cerwin came with the chain before they pulled it over and the group effort did the job.

Jere rented a splitter to prepare the wood for storage.

By the end of the day our hickory tree was stored in their new wood storage shed.

They will use it for their outside fire pit.
