Sunday Afternoon, August 17
We thought we may have to miss this, or at least the first part (because of taking the chapel to York Springs in the morning), but we got there just in time to hear the final instructions before the race.
This was part of a Sunday school class picnic – which included our son Jere’s family.
Ian and Jesse (brown boat) were excited to participate.
They were dressed as pirates.
The U.S.S. Yolo is ready to be carried to the dock. Dwight, Lauren & Ethan would be manning this one.
Duck Slayer, by Scott and Blaine, is on its way to the dock.
Merrimack is also ready for the race.
This one isn’t on the list of pre-registered boats, but it appears to be Dwayne and a few of his children.
Keith is prepared to launch his boat.
Costumes were important as there was going to be judging.
There were lots of spectators – anxious to see how their friend’s or family member’s boat did.
We were back at the Shenk farm (where we had been the night before for the [Son]rise Fundraiser), but on the other side of their house.
Just in Case is in the first race.
USS Hope it Floats will also race first.
Others getting in the lineup.
Putting them in the water.
And the first two are off!
Just in Case (Steve & Lamar) and USS Hope it Floats (Gordon & Brayden)
Just in Case is looking good.
First one around the buoy (a gallon jug)
USS Hope It Floats made it around the buoy.
Just in Case won the first race, but USS Hope It Floats made it back to the dock – and it did float!
More pictures tomorrow.
